Excerpt from an email from Verne Merrill, PYFL Athletic Director

As the Athletic Director of the PYFL, I sometimes have to make some very uncomfortable decisions.

This one is easy and I hope you all will agree with me. You know how astronomers get to name stars if they discover them, well the Invitational tournament was my idea, I have decided to name if after Jim Thornton Sr.

We talked earlier this season about doing something in his honor and I think this best fits what Jim was all about.

So this Saturday, come out to Newbury Park high and watch the 1st annual Jim Thornton Invitational Tournament.
