The undefeated Pee Wee Patriots deserve more ink

I've read in local publications of the Vikings Football Team but, unless I missed it, I haven't seen any article about the Simi Valley Pee Wee Patriot football team.

Six-, 7-, and 8-year-old Simi Valley boys donned Patriotemblemed helmets, pads and all the other accoutrements needed to safely play football and engaged the Moorpark Pee Wee football team to a test of skill on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Moorpark College football stadium.

This game was the last of the regular league games and resulted in the Patriot Pee Wee's being undefeated 8-0; a feat that has never been accomplished in the Pee Wee League before.

The image of these little guys playing on the big ball field with such heart and concentration is directly attributed to their coaches, Steve Aguilar, Gil Carrillo, Alan Shook, Rob Destocki, and Steve Petralia, who have instilled teamwork, dedication, sportsmanship, pride, and self-confidence, while still having fun, to these 6- to 8-year-olds.

The team gets plenty of support from team mom Carol Aguilar and all the parents, grandparents, and brothers and sisters who get these moppets to the practices and games and cheer (loudly) them on.

The team begins playoff games Saturday, Nov. 11, and hopes to continue their winning streak so they can play in the Superbowl on Dec 2.

Other organizations have been acknowledged in local newspapers and acknowledgement of the coaches and this pint-sized team for the amazing job that they have done should be broadcast.

How special it would be for this team to be recognized in print.

In years to come Simi Valley and the world will reap the benefits of the skills instilled in these very young men today. Carolyn Duncan Simi Valley
